Company Overview

Galatea Associates is an IT consulting firm dedicated to creating strategic systems for the financial services industry. Galatea deploys systems solutions and provides consulting services that radically reinvent the survival-dependent applications supporting the securities industry. Our systems presume global and real-time processing capability and support the client enterprise-wide.

Our success is largely due to our company philosophy of "learning the business". While technical skills are essential, we differentiate ourselves by coupling our skills with an understanding of our complex industry. Securities transaction processing is a multifaceted business that touches almost every area in a brokerage firm. The better each Associate understands this business, the better the work we will be able to produce for our clients.

Current and former clients include Morgan Stanley, State Street, Mass Mutual, Deutsche Bank, and Merrill Lynch.

Company Culture

Galatea Associates is a unique place to work. We are not a large, inflexible corporation, nor are we a tiny start-up, scrambling for cash and recognition. We are a small, focused, well-funded, and well-respected company with a ten-year track record of success building and implementing complex financial securities systems.

We promote a friendly atmosphere. Our flat organizational structure promotes friendship and easy discourse. Most meetings are informal gatherings around a cubicle, or in our lounge area. The entire company breaks weekly to eat lunch together. People here socialize both in and out of work. We have frequent company outings both planned and unplanned. Sometimes it's candlepin bowling or an after-work gathering at a local pub.

We maintain an open work environment at our office in Davis Square (located on the Red Line) in Somerville, MA. Dress is casual and work hours are flexible since we place emphasis on the results of each person's work, we are not overly concerned with people adhering to a strict work schedule.

Ultimately, Galatea's most important asset is its people. As such, training is a crucial element in our business strategy. New employees spend their first few weeks learning about the securities industry in general and their project's business and technical environment in particular. This is done in an informal setting: each new employee is teamed with a mentor, a senior member of the firm who assists with their transition and helps ensure their success at Galatea. This relationship helps individuals share their skills and experience, which fosters growth and supports the long-term success of the company.
